Iron oxide Vs Organic Pigments- Why I choose to use Organic Pigments

When deciding on a pigment brand to use in my studio I spent a lot of time researching the very best to ensure amazing results that last! In the cosmetic tattoo industry there are literally hundreds of pigment brands available, the main difference is in the composition. Iron Oxide vs Organic pigments. I am going to share with you why I choose to use Organic Pigments so you can feel assured your cosmetic tattoo will look beautiful for many years to come.

Composition-

Organic pigments contain both carbon pigments and mineral pigments. They typically include colourants derived from fruit, plants or vegetable based minerals and they are soluble and dissolve easily in water in comparison to iron oxide pigments that are derived from mineral and salt compounds and are insoluble and separate in water.

Intensity of colour-

Organic pigments have a very rich colour intensity whereas inorganic/iron oxide pigments are more earthy and muted. Using organic pigments gives you that confidence that your brow color will not change, or fight with your skin tone. However, exposure to sunlight or chemicals can take away the bright color of organic pigment

Longevity and how they fade on your skin-

Organic pigments will last for years with gradual and slow fading out whereas iron oxide pigments will fade out within 1-2 years.  Most importantly is how the brows look after 12-18months. In my years of experience I have noticed iron oxide pigments can look very faded with an orange/red residual after approximately 18 months and will need to be “cooled-down” through colour correction to shift the color back to a neutral hue/color. This can happen because as iron oxide black fades, it can leave behind the red and yellow iron oxide pigments. Organic pigments last in the skin far longer and fade more naturally during that time.

Why I choose to use organic pigments

Although organic pigments are less widely used within the industry as they are a relatively new product I have found the results from these organic pigments far superior. They fade beautifully with no orange/pink undertones. Ensuring my clients have a cosmetic tattoo that looks amazing on the day of treatment and in years to come is very important to me. This is why I choose to use the best organic pigments on the market.
