How your skin type defines which tattoo technique will suit you best and it’s longevity on your skin.

When choosing the perfect cosmetic tattoo technique we need to consider many different factors, one of the most important being your skin type. Considering your skin type is vital to determining what type of tattoo technique will suit you best and how long it will last before a touch-up is due. I pride myself in delivering a cosmetic tattoo that will not only look amazing on the day of treatment but for many months to come.

During your consultation I will analyse your skin type- looking at how dry or oily your skin is and your pore size. There are four skin types that you can have: normal, dry, oily or combination.  Your skin’s sensitivity is also an important factor.  Let’s have a look at how various skin types affect your cosmetic tattoo.

Both normal and dry skin types generally heal well, the colour distributes evenly and retains for  the longest duration. If you have normal or dry skin you can expect your cosmetic tattoo to last for 1- 1.5 years before a touch up is due. All types of cosmetic tattoo technique is suitable for normal and dry skins including microblading/ feather touch. The delicate feather/ hair strokes heal crisp and as the skin releases fewer oils these stroke lines stay crisp and don’t get diluted as quickly.

Combination and oily skins need a little more consideration when choosing the perfect technique. The more oil flow in your skin the harder it is for your skin to retain the tattoo. Oily skin will heal soft and microblading hair strokes will heal more powdery with the colour spreading out, the fine strokes will not stay crisp on an oily skin. With years of experience I know how to place feather strokes on an oily skin to minimize the lines spreading and blurring. For most oily skin I highly recommend a combination or powder brow to get the best long lasting results.

So does that mean oily skin can’t have feather touch brows?

The answer is, it is not the best option for oily skin.

You can have microblading/ feather touch brows done if you have oily skin. However, you’ll want to keep in mind that the pigment will fade quicker and the fine feather touch lines will not stay crisp. If you are a new client with oily skin and have your first microblading procedure done, it is most likely you will need to return sooner than the recommended 1-year touch up.  For the best long lasting results on an oily skin ombre brow, powder brow, or  combination eyebrow tattoo is a much better option.

When you schedule your brow tattoo appointment I will spend time evaluating your skin type and explain the best treatment for you.
